Thanks! I think I stumbled onto it somewhere else - since I've never been to that site before. It appears this recipe has been rather widely disseminated then. I'll shoot them an email and see if they came up with it originally, or if they know the source.

These were delicious. I added a little sea salt just to make it more traditional and used a custom blend of non-bitter stevia/erythritol as the sugar, so the only sugar was in the chips. 15 and 6 yr old ate them up! I'm also just realizing there was no type of oil/butter called for. I wonder what if that would spread them out more or make them less 'bready?' Thanks for posting.

Georgia -

glad you liked them.

I usually scrap them onto the backing sheet with a spoon and a fork. It sticks a little bit, but keeps them from making quite as much of a mess. Scoop out a spoon full then scrape it off with a fork, it helps keep them all the same size as well.
I usually do try to flatten them a bit, as you said, you don't want them to seem "too healthy"

I just made these with raisins instead of chocolate chips. They are delicious and I can't wait to have my one-year-old try them. What a great way to get good nutrition into him. I have two comments/questions:
1. Any tips for making the balls without getting the dough all stuck to your hands? I think I lost out on a couple of cookies just with the stuff sticking to me instead of the balls.
2. Do you flatten them first? I'm okay with little "balls" instead of cookies, but some people may find that a tip-off that these are "healthy cookies"!!

That was the most common-sense rant I have ever read on the interweb.

It's funny how people in clearly defined camps (diets {paleo, low-carb, high-carb} or training {cardio junkies, HIITers, Crossfitters, etc}) get very defensive when their cult is threatened.

You approach seems to be more of a search for truth than the adoption of a specific dogma.

...and sadly, my weakness is nacho chips with homemade salsa

BTW, I tweeted this post

do we as a whole have a responsibility to change the health recommendations to something that works?

Yes and no, imho, I think that people have their personal responsibility first, of course. And then, those that get called by the personal passion to take the truth to the FDA/whoever should totally do it.

But, not everyone who 'gets it' is going to have that passion. They may feel more inspired to open a CrossFit gym. Or a healthy restaurant. Or keep working at their jobs, but share happily with people who ask them, "Dude, what have you been doing?"

Changing the governmental juggernaut is a task that I believe will happen, but not through rebellion. Too much resistance that way. Instead, enough people will be lovingly loud, and change will happen from within.

Just look at Wal-Mart's environmental initiatives. People have hated WM for years, complained, etc. - nothing. But then, the President/CEO dude gets an awakening moment about going green, and blamo - there they go.

So keep preaching it, brothers and sisters. Share your loving message, and those whose ears are open will hear it, one at a time.

I too have been promoting the virtues of women lifting heavy for many years now. I have personally trained no less than 3 women who have lifted heavy (1-5 reps) alternating with moderate (8-12 reps) weights for 3 or more months. It's amazing, but all three of them ended up getting stronger and obtaining the body image they were shooting for. One even won 2nd place in a figure competition.

THANK YOU for this post! I generally read a blogs from a wide variety of athletes (endurance, strength, running, basketball, skating, lifting....etc) who have VERY different diets (IF, lots of carb, low carb, paleo, primal, low fat, vegan, ad nauseum). Most people will preach that what they do is the universal solution, when in fact, if it's the only thing they've tried, how can they make ANY conclusion that they will have better results on a different diet?

In the end, I've come to my own conclusions about how I'm going to eat. Low carb/paleo appeals to me, but I don't adhere to it all the time because I enjoy eating my parents' cooking too (I live at home). I'm also hesitant about giving ANY unsolicitated advice or even commentary on how/what to eat, because I figure if it's important enough to the individual, he/she will do his/her own research and come to his/her own conclusions, and it doesn't concern me.
