Assorted ramblings on training, nutrition, social issues surrounding these areas and a generous side of irrelevancy

Yesterday’s (4-29-09) workout, stamina/work capacity

Today I feel surprisingly good.
I’m really enjoying climbing, and have been makbut I do miss the time pushing things in the gym more.

Workouts for 3/30 – 4/5

It was a good week. Two gym workouts, two climbing gym workouts and two out door climbing days (the pay out).

Workouts for the last week (and them some).

That’s all for now folks. I’m focusing more on quality work in the climbing than quantity lately. As a result my workout calendar looks a bit sparse, and I feel a but lazy because I’m not constantly beaten down, sore and bordering on over training. I know this is the best approach for me, but it’s tough not to want to push all the time.

Tuesday and Wednesday (climbing & power endurance work)

This is my first time doing so much climbing specific cross training – I’m eager to see how it’ll pan out. Reading various training books you get very varied opinions on how effective fingerboard, campus boards and the like are, as compared to just working on the movement itself through climbing.

Today I did this little power endurance gem It’s another adopted mountain athlete mostly adopted because I didn’t have a rope to climb handy, and didn’t bring my sandbags or a backpack to the gym.

2-22-09. In a down mood, try to hurt yourself at the gym. (Power Endurance workout)

As a consolation we’d been planning on doing a nice long, aerobic hike (with packs) today.

My heart just wasn’t into it though. Feeling generally down I decided there was only one logical thing to do (and I wanted some endurance work). I drank a few too many cups of coffee, and headed to the gym, to try and hurt myself.

Monday 02-16-09, strength/ power-endurance work

I attempted to do some strength work today, despite the work capacity workout yesterday. I also had only had a handful of carbs all day, and ended up feeling it when I did this one. I felt horrible during this workout, enough to scale the volume way down (nearly in half) from what [...]

Friday – Sunday 2-13 through 2-15

Sunday it was time for a change of, pace and a little high intensity cardio (ananerobic goodness).

Wednesday 02-11-09, indoor climbing & campusing

It’s been warm and raining here in Pittsburgh, and what was looking to be a very promising local ice season appears to be at its end.
That said, it was warm enough today that it made me start to look forward to rock climbing trips and the spring.
I also had some form of [...]

Monday 02-09-09, Strength Work

As I mentioned, I’ve been borrowing a lot of my programming from Mountain Athlete lately. I’m still hoping to squeeze a few good ice climbing trips out of the season while getting ready for the coming rock season.
I’m doing more movement practice then they suggest (i.e. indoor climbing) and still try to get some [...]
