Fitness Fail

Assorted ramblings on training, nutrition, social issues surrounding these areas and a generous side of irrelevancy

Today’s miracle pill is: Growth Hormone!

I fully admit that I still have a lot to learn about training and physiology, by any real standard I’m a beginner in this field. That said, I really wish people would learn to check their sources, and verify things before sprouting off conjecture as fact.

Somewhere, people made the leap from “that idea makes logical sense” to “it’s true!” without testing it. I knew something was up when I went to the gym at 7am and the meat heads were doing an hour of slow, plodding cardio (in the fat burning zone of course!) before breakfast.

Back next week.

This week has seen my trying to finish my end of semester project for a grad class I’m taking (Phis. Basis of Performance and Sport Conditioning - absolutely fascinating class) while still attempting to get something resembling my job done at work.

Launching Rayna’s Site.

I’ve mentioned my long time girlfriend Rayna on here a few times, and she’s written a few pieces for this site. While our opinions are similar on a lot of the things I write about, she’s definitely someone with a lot to say on her own. We’ve been putting together a site for her to use for her photography and blogging and thought today would be a good time to kick it off

Monday 03-16-09 - I lost a fight with a kettlebell.

This was brutal. The KB clean and jerk really slowed me down. I need to revisit my form on these. I have a red and purple bruise on my left shoulder from the belle’ slamming into it - which should have been an indicator that I’m doing something wrong. I have the “snap” through part just fine for KB snatches (i.e. they don’t hurt my forearms) but clearly I’m missing some of the technique to clean them. If anyone has any pointers or good tutorials I’d appreciate it.

Things to come…

At the request of several people I’m going to start posting my workout logs on this site. I deviate significantly from the Crossfit/Paleo/Primal standards in that I train with a good deal more volume than most of those guys. When looking at this, it’s important to consider that I’m working to improve athletic performance in several specific sports, not just improve overall health.

and they let her teach?

I just finished up a Yoga class I was taking through college and my instructor there is a complete moron. Okay, maybe not complete but she tries to force information into her student’s heads that is unreliable, out dated or just plain wrong.
Each class she gives out a handout at the beginning of class (good [...]
